Your Excellency, We need ''Clarafications''
October 2008 was her year. It came!!It finally came!It was her wedding. Her joy knew no bounds because she had waited for this moment all her life. Nature,to her mind ,was being kind to her, by giving her the most powerful Man in Enugu state as her husband.Theirs was a wedding that had all the trappings and aesthetics of a high octane social occasion. The grandeur of the event made spinsters in Enugu State and beyond green with envy for the lucky bride.Who would not want to be the First Lady of a State? Who would not want the benefits and aplomb that comes with that esteemed office?Fast forward to 2013,the once radiant, energetic and beautiful Clara,is now a shadow of her former self. For Clara Chime, the story of her matrimonial home sounds so Topsy-turvy, like a typical nollywood script laced with suspense,back-stabbing,halftruths and wholesale deceit. Her matrimonial challenges could rival the award-winning opera titled "superstory". What went wrong with this seemingly beautiful marriage made in heaven? We need "clarafications"(permit me to introduce this word into our matrimonial lexicon).
In 2011,Nigerians woke up one beautiful morning to herald the news that Governor Sullivian Chime was involved in an amorous relationship with his wife's younger sister,Ebere Igwe, and the product was a lovechild. News was rife that this situation caused serious bad blood between the two sisters and led to the younger sister vacating Enugu Government House. His Excellency has not denied this allegation. Could this betrayal by the Governor have caused the "nervous breakdown" that Clara said recently she is suffering from? Is the above situation narrated above enough to make a young woman suffer nervous breakdown? To my mind,I think Yes!!!
October seemed to be the month of freedom for the young First Lady as she wrote a petition to the National Human Rights Commission alleging incarceration and psychological torture from the Governor. Days later,The Governor, in a press conference, disclosed that his wife had mental challenges and would not want to disclose the details to the press so as not to ridicule her on the "pages of newspapers". In the company of the Governor during the press conference was Mrs Clara Chime, her elder brother and a neurologist,Dr Agumo. In the press conference,She denied contacting Human Rights Lawyer,Femi Falana,to come to her aid. However, few days after the face-saving Press conference,She was "bundled" out of Enugu Government House in a suspicious manner without her son.
Naturally, the situation narrated above throws up more questions than answers. When did the first lady's mental challenge begin? Does it have anything to do with the alleged affair of the Governor with her younger sister? What is the nature of her mental challenge that would warrant her being incarcerated? Why was she not sent abroad for treatment(since that is what is in vogue among our elites)? Is her so-called mental condition exaggerated? Why did she refute the incontrovertible fact that she contacted Femi Falana and that she petitioned the National Human Rights Commission? Could it be that she was threatened? Why was she made to vacate Government House soon after the concocted Press conference? Funny enough, why are other members of her family not coming out in support of their daughter? Why is her elder brother on the Governor's side despite the obvious psychological trauma the sister is going through in the hands of the Governor? Is the NHRC living up to its legal and statutory responsibility in the light of this imbroglio?could her incarceration be rightly termed "unconstitutional" in the light of sections 34 and 35 of the 1999 Constitution as amended? These and many more questions deserve "clarafication" from His Excellency.
However, we should not expect our all knowing Governor to give Nigerians the "clarafications" that we seek since He himself is not accountable to anybody, not even the people that voted him to power. Remember,He left Enugu state "headless" and proceeded for treatment abroad without telling Enugu people where He was going to and why He was leaving the state. So why should he make "clarafications" as to the true situation surrounding his "victim of love",Mrs Clara Chime, who he married with his own money and not yours?? This sums up the total impunity among the ruling class where constitutional provisions are breached with utmost sense of disgust. In order climes. His Excellency would have resigned but No,this is Nigeria, where all animals are equal but some are more equal than others.
